Jan Willem van der Kaaij is the Inspector General of the European Investment Bank (EIB). In 2002 he became a Member of the Board of Directors of the EIB and assumed the post of Inspector General in 2007. In this position, he is responsible for is responsible for Internal Audit, Anti-Fraud & Anti-Corruption matters, Operations Evaluation as well as the external Complaints Mechanism. He brings 25 years of professional experience garnered from appointments which encompass working seven years in Washington DC in the posts of Executive Director of the World Bank; Executive Director, Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC); Financial Counsellor at the Royal Netherlands Embassy; and Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund. Previous posts also include Deputy Director Foreign Financial Relations Directorate at the Ministry of Finance, The Hague; Member of the Administrative Council for The Netherlands of the Council of Europe Development Bank, Paris; Head of Multilateral Banks Division of the Ministry of Finance, The Hague; and Economist at “De Nederlandsche Bank” (central bank of the Netherlands), Amsterdam. Mr van der Kaaij is a Dutch national. He attained a Master’s degree in History from the University of Groningen in 1985, specialising in ‘Contemporary and Economic History’. He has published articles on Evaluation issues, EMU, IMF and “De Nederlandsche Bank”.
