Cornelia Abel is currently managing Transparency International Secretariat’s side of the Global Anti-Corruption Consortium (GACC), the groundbreaking partnership to accelerate the global fight against corruption by bringing together investigative journalism spearheaded by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and advocacy driven by Transparency International (TI). From 2008 to 2017, she was overseeing operations of the TI movement’s National Chapters in 16 countries in Eastern and South East Europe, Turkey and Israel, supporting civil society development, and engaging in national and regional advocacy work on anti-corruption and good governance. Conny started with Transparency International in June 2005 as an intern in the Information Technology Department. She then joined the Communications Department as an Assistant handling requests from journalists, with a main focus on South Eastern Europe, and organising TI’s public appearance programme. From October 2006 until March 2007, she covered the position of the Public Procurement Programme Coordinator on an interim basis, before starting to work with the Europe and Central Asia team. Conny holds a Master’s in Communication Science from the University of Dresden, Germany.
